Hiring A Professional Painting Contractor

The best advice I can offer, after a lifetime in the industry, when choosing a professional painting contractor to work in/on your home or business is to trust one's instincts. In a day and age where we are all bombarded with advertising everywhere we turn (especially on the internet) I believe the saying "let the buyer beware" has never been more true. Unfortunately, it has become prudent to believe little of what you read and only some of what you see. More than ever I believe referral and "word of mouth" is the best way to find and meet the right service professional for your particular project regardless what trade you are seeking. Ask friends, relatives and coworkers of their experiences. This person(s) will be spending possibly a substantial amount of time in your home and on your property. You will be trusting them with what is your most likely your most valuable investment.

Unfortunately, many contractors have adopted the system of choosing day workers from the parking lots at many large box stores in the area. Many of these workers are undocumented and at the least, certainly no legal employees. You should be confortable with whom is working on/in your home or business. Many times it is the situation where homeowners will need to go to work themselves while the work in their home is proceeeding.

Try to keep in mind that purchasing a "service" can be vastly different than purchasing a product. You are not able to see or experience the final product until AFTER you have made your decision and commitment. Basing decisions primarily on price/cost when purchasing a service rarely yield the best value.
